On Wednesday 10th September, I was lucky enough to attend the Country Life Fair Grand Ball, attended by Prince Michael of Kent, at the natural history museum.
After weeks of trying to decide on my outfit, I finally chose a cream Jovani evening dress; very 1930s Hollywood glamour, with the Grecian draping and a black chiffon wrap and wore silver diamanté shoes, all from Jessica Louise Boutique.
As I was only taking a small clutch bag with room enough for Id and phone, I needed makeup that would stand the test of time as well as look good after travelling, eating, drinking and dancing and still look good come midnight.
First on my list was foundation; one that would cover and last but still look natural. I chose Clarins new True Radiance Foundation for perfect skin that illuminates and protects. This has medium coverage without being heavy and is now my new wonder product. It lasted for 8 hours, even though I was sweating from dancing the Scottish Reel and didn’t need any touch-ups throughout the night.
Next was the lipstick. It’s so hard to find one that lasts but doesn’t dry out the lips and I’m sure it’s a makeup dilemma that most women have faced at some point in their life. Well, search no more. Estée Lauder’s new Pure Colour Envy lipstick does the trick. I chose Red Ego as my colour for the classic red lip and got compliments on it all night. Through eating canapés and fruit and drinking the wine, it lasted and lasted and my lips felt smooth and moisturised as well.
My hair was set in heated rollers then finger brushed to the side and a diamanté comb held it in place along with a good helping of VO5 high volume hairspray.
When the carriages arrived at midnight, after dancing the night away to T’Pu and Sister Sledge, my makeup still looked fresh and ready to take me another eight hours, although my body said otherwise.
