Scales and Tails Behind-the-scenes
Following many previous events in the past, I couldn’t wait too long before I organised another. This time, I thought I would concentrate on my favourite event from last year and try to make it even better. It was an easy decision … it had to be Scales and Tails. Having lots of exotic animals with models and photographers in one great studio, there is just nothing better.
My choice of ‘animal people’ couldn’t have been easier. Weird ‘n’ Wonderful Animal Education are probably the best team in the whole of the Midlands, if not the in UK, with fabulous animals. Melissa, with her staff members April and Rachel, are not only very professional but also fun to work with. They ensured the safety of all animals and our models and photographers, whilst helping with lots of advice on handling and posing with different animals.
Our location for the day was Bodyline Studio in Long Eaton, Nottinghamshire, one of the biggest studios in the Midlands, with over 3000 sq. ft. and twenty different sets to choose from. Amy Swift from Nottingham was our MUA for the event and she did a fabulous job. I had worked with Amy on previous projects and knowing her work is amazing, she was the right choice.
There were four great photographers with very diverse experience and three awesome models. I planned the day ensuring that each photographer got a chance to work with a different model, in a different set, with a different animal through the day. I spent time with each team, whilst shooting some behind-the -scenes photos. I even found some time before we started to photograph one of our photographers (ex-model Christine) with the fox called Mortimer.
Having only two weeks before the magazine’s publication, we decided to feature only a few of the shots and we are all looking forward to seeing the other shots we took, once they are all edited. Seeing what images everyone produced so far, I think it was another successful event. Not only did we create more fabulous art, we had a fun day with lovely animals. We also made some new friendships. Dexter Morgan
